Hospitality Design
Having grown up in both upstate New York and South-Eastern Pennsylvania, Megan was surrounded by storied and historic interiors from a young age. When her family relocated to Chester County, Pennsylvania from upstate New York, Megan’s interest and passion for architecture and design really began. It was during this move that she began to absorb all of the interesting details and visuals she experienced; committing layouts and small details to memory. Whether she was collecting free real estate magazines from grocery stores, drawing master plans for neighborhoods, or floor plans for houses and stables, she had become obsessed with building and creating. Over the years her interests kept growing and were developed through courses in both architecture and interior design during high school, as well as on trips with her family to various cities throughout the United States. Megan went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from Philadelphia University (now Thomas Jefferson University), and spent a semester abroad in Milan, Italy where she took courses in interior, graphic and industrial design. While in college she worked as a design associate for a residential retailer and upon graduation she worked in various facets of the interior design industry; from an interior designer for a furniture dealer specializing in office design and university projects, to a cad-drafter for an architect, to representing contract furniture and fabric manufacturers, to a career making role as a project coordinator and lead designer at a large multi-disciplinary architectural firm. It was, however, her time at a smaller woman-owned interior design firm that sparked her passion for creating concept-driven hospitality spaces. As someone who has always appreciated learning and research, Megan’s experience across various facets of the design industry has culminated in her constantly assessing the spaces she inhabits; looking at how the spaces could be both more functional and aesthetically pleasing.
While Megan was on maternity leave in 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic started and she found herself in a position to finally take the plunge in opening her own business. After years of having her own “side-hustle”, and dreaming of the day she’d own a business, Megan took a leap of faith and formed Riverwards General.
When she’s not designing, you can find her antiquing in Chester County with her toddler in tow, searching for the next home to restore with her social-worker husband, trying every dirty-chai oat milk latte in the county and snuggling with the family’s 11-year old “puppy”.
